I am grateful to my parents for giving me piano lessons. It was in Medan, I was a toddler and playing on the piano. My father said to my mother: “He has to take piano lessons later.” I can still hear him say it.
THAT'S ME | My first solo album
I was twelve, my father passed away four years earlier, and suddenly there was a piano unnoticed in the living room in North Haarlem and the piano teacher came by every week. After two Folk Dean textbooks, the teacher noticed that I was not reading the notes, but playing them from memory; I happily continued playing after she removed the sheet music...
For some songs, the lyrics are taken from my debut novel 'Zwijgen, Zweeg, Gezwegen'. For example, a Greek tragedy is woven into the story of the book and I sing about it in 'At The End Of The Book'. If you want to know more about the content of that text, I'd say...read the book to find out.
